Description
On the furthest southern part of Attica, at Cape Sounion, a strategic fortress was built by Ancient Greek people, from which they could control the seaway passage from the Aegean Sea to Athens and its major port, Piraeus. The sacred temple of Poseidon, is located on the fortress’ highest point and it’s made of white marble mined from Penteli mountain. Even today, it is considered to be one of most impressive archaeological sites in Greece, while it continues to make visitors gasp and experience the landscape in wonderment.
