Description
Clay craftsmen gravitated in a specific region, to the edges of ancient Athens and on the banks of the river Eridanus. The name of the district, Keramikos, comes from the ceramic artefacts that were produced (Etymology: Greek keramikós, equivalent to kéram(os), potters of clay + -ikos). At this point, two of the arterial roads commenced, the official city’s cemetery was placed aside, with dozens of impressive memorial tombs of prominent citizens and fallen soldiers.
