Description
The mountain of Ochi was a place of particular significance in ancient Greek mythology. Hera was raised in the area by a nymph called Makri, and Zeus first spotted her in the highlands of Ochi. He set out to conquer her and finally succeeded, with the summit of Ochi being the place where they united for the first time. The name “Ochi” derives from an ancient Greek work meaning ‘bond’, ‘union’, ‘coitus’. Towering at an altitude of 1398m, the summit of Ochi offers an impressive view over the Karystian gulf and the Aegean sea.
